About
Kristen is an Estonian-Canadian photographer interested in culture, identity and community. She holds a B.A. in anthropology and art history from McGill University, and an M.A. in anthropology from the University of Toronto. Her master's research on photography in Scandinavian Sápmi was published in Visual Communication Quarterly and exhibited at FotoFocus Cincinnati.
As an artist with the Mikw Chiyâm program, Kristen teaches photography and works with Cree youth in the Eeyou Istchee (northern Quebec). For nearly six years, she was affiliated with the IPinCH project, an award-winning research collaboration focused on decolonizing academic practice and developing new models for Indigenous-university partnerships.
Kristen holds dual citizenship in Canada and Estonia.
